Introduction Of New GPA-Based Grading System In Secondary Education

Starting this year, students will receive a GPA ranging from 1 to 5. However, the exact marks will not be disclosed on the students’ result cards.

A notification has been issued by all educational boards regarding this change. The new grading system will be introduced for 9th and 11th classes in the Annual Examinations of 2023, followed by 10th and 12th classes in the Annual Examinations of 2024. Eventually, beginning from the Annual Examination of 2025, results will be communicated solely in terms of and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Computation Of GPA In The Grading System For Board Examinations

The online transcript and result card will now reflect the updated grading system, which is based on GPA. The introduction of this new grading system has been implemented by all educational boards across Pakistan. This revised system is applicable for 9th class and 1st year students starting from 2023, while for 10th and 2nd year students, it will be effective from 2024. The process of converting Percentage to GPA has been simplified through a provided table. This table will assist students in calculating their GPA or approximating their marks.

Secondary School Certificate (SSC – I) 1st Annual Board Examination 2023 :

The 9th class board examination took place in March/April 2023.
The announcement of the result is scheduled for August 22, 2023.
Passing marks have been set at 40% for each subject. Students who score below this threshold will receive a U grade, which is equivalent to Unsatisfactory or the previous designation of FAIL. Additionally, your grades will be indicated for each subject.
On the result card/transcript, subject-wise marks will be detailed, alongside grades and GPA. The grading system will now supersede the marks system, as previously announced by the educational boards.

All inquiries regarding the candidates’ result should be directed to the Controller Examination of the board.
Candidates who wish to apply for re-checking of their paper(s) can do so online through the BISE website (https://www.bisedgkhan.edu.pk/) within 15 days after the result declaration.
A student who scores below 40% marks in one or more subjects or is absent in the Part-I Examination (if not appearing in the class 10th Examination) may be readmitted in Part-I with a change or in the same combination of subjects/group in any other or the same educational institute / high school.
