International Education Week offers opportunities for international and cultural awareness

VCU has a bunch of cool events this week to show how great it is to learn from and share with people from all around the world.

From November 13 to 17, Virginia Commonwealth University is having a special week called International Education Week. The Global Education Office is happy because the university is doing a lot to connect with people from all over the world. International Education Week is like a big celebration organized by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. It’s a chance to be excited about how cool it is to learn from and share with people from different countries. This started in 2000, and now it’s a big deal celebrated in more than 100 countries!

The idea for this week is ‘International Education is the Future.’ That means learning about things from all around the world is really important for what comes next!

The theme for this year is about learning from all around the world and thinking about the future. Dr. Jill Blondin, who helps plan cool things at VCU, says the events we have planned match this theme. We want to celebrate people who are connected to the whole world and see how they help make our community and the world a better place.

The Global Education Office has lots of fun things planned throughout the week to celebrate VCU’s connections with the world. We want everyone to know about the cool things happening with international students and learning from different countries at our university. There will be different events, like a party and information session for people who want to learn about a new scholarship (L & L Friendship Scholarship Fund ) for studying abroad. There’s also a party to say thank you to international scholars who help with important research, and a talk with VCU alumni who have worked around the world. They’ll share their experiences and encourage students to be interested in jobs that involve the whole world.

The things we have planned for International Education Week are:

  • VCU International Student Achievement Series.

VCU has a special series for students from other countries called the International Student Achievement Series. We’re having virtual workshops with advisors, and during International Education Week, we have four cool workshops:

– On Nov. 14 at 9 a.m., there’s a workshop for students who are finishing school soon, called ‘Post-Completion Optional Practical Training.’

– On Nov. 15 at 10 a.m., we’re talking about traveling for students on an F-1 visa.

– On Nov. 16 at 3 p.m., there’s a workshop about ‘Curricular Practical Training.

– Finally, on Nov. 17 at 10 a.m., we’ll learn about ‘Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training.

  • Coffee and Conversation with Phi Beta Delta.
On Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
we have something special happening at 912 West Grace St. on the 3rd floor in Room 3126.
You’ll get to know about Phi Beta Delta, a group that celebrates students who do really well in learning about the world. You can talk to the people who are part of this group and learn how they can help you while you’re at VCU.
