RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and the US are working together to improve investment and cooperation in the education field.
Yousef Al-Benyan Education Minister and a team from Saudi Arabia visited the United States from Feb. 6 to 10. They met with US officials and investors to discuss collaboration in education. The minister and his team also visited various American institutions and universities during their trip, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Monday.
The officials also talked about providing education for children worldwide, including students with special needs and disabilities.
The country is also trying to get foreign investors to invest in higher education as part of SaudiArabia Vision 2030.
At the University of Chicago, the minister talked about working together on research and setting up new schools. In Washington, discussions with State Department and Education Department officials centered on the Kingdom’s progress in economics and education.
The minister talked about how the Education Ministry wants to make the curriculum better and promote things like global citizenship, peace, tolerance, and diversity.
Al-Benyan stressed that the ministry wants to work more with private companies to make sure teachers get good training. They’re doing this through something called the National Institute for Educational Professional Development.
In Washington, there was a big meeting about investing in education in Saudi Arabia. Over 150 investors and people from American groups were there. Saudi Arabia’s leaders answered questions about starting American schools and universities in Saudi Arabia.
The minister talked about having an Arizona State University branch in Saudi Arabia. He also visited Gallaudet University in Washington, which teaches students who have trouble hearing.
He also looked into working with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf to create places for people who can’t hear well in Saudi Arabia.
In Chicago and Washington, the minister met with Saudi Arabia’s scholarship students and told them about the goals of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program. He said they were like ambassadors of Saudi Arabia in the US.
