ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
The University of Oxford is a really old and important school. It’s the oldest university where people speak English, and it’s the second oldest university still around in the whole world. Even though we don’t know the exact day it started, we have evidence that teaching was happening way back in 1096.
Oxford is in a cool place with old buildings in the city center. The university has 44 colleges and halls, which are like special houses for students. There are also more than 100 libraries, making it the biggest library system in the UK.
Around 22,000 students go to Oxford, and more than half of them are learning for their first degree. Lots of students come from different countries, a total of 140! The city where Oxford is located is often called the “city of dreaming spires” because of its tall, pointy buildings. Almost one-fourth of the people who live there are students, which makes Oxford a lively and exciting place.
Oxford has a big group of people who used to go there, called alumni. There are over 250,000 of them! Some are really famous, like Olympic medal winners, Nobel Prize winners, poets, and leaders from different countries. People like Bill Clinton, Aung San Suu Kyi, and even 26 UK Prime Ministers were once part of Oxford.
