The Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan had a meeting and gave awards to 321 students from Sri Lanka. These students got selected for the ‘Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students’ to study in Pakistan. Now, they need to finish their paperwork to come to Pakistan and start studying at their universities.
Dr. Premajayantha said thank you to the Pakistan government for helping Sri Lankan students, teachers, and government workers learn more. He said that when Pakistan and Sri Lanka help each other, it makes South Asia stronger and more important.
The Minister said well done to the students and said it’s great that they can study in the best universities in Pakistan. He talked about how learning in another country is a big deal because it helps you learn a lot and gives you experiences you’ll remember forever.
Ms. Aayesha Ikram spoke first and talked about the scholarship. She said it’s making friends between the two countries. She told the Sri Lankan students to focus on their studies, learn about Pakistan’s different cultures, make friends, and use this chance to grow. She said that these students from Sri Lanka represent their country in Pakistan, and when they finish studying, they’ll represent Pakistan in Sri Lanka.
The Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students is a part of the Pak-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme. Right now, 351 students from Sri Lanka are studying different subjects at different levels in universities in Pakistan.
The new students picked will learn about Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Management, Health, Farming and Animal Science, Biology, Science, People and Society, and Arts.
The Sri Lankan Minister of Education, Dr. Susil Premajayantha, was a special guest at the award ceremony. Many important people from Pakistan and Sri Lanka, like High Commissioner Umar Farooq Burki, Ms. Aayesha Ikram from HEC, Mr. Jehanzeb Khan, Sri Lankan Ministers, university leaders, important army people, Buddhist Monks, past students from the project, and students who got scholarships with their families, all came to the event.
