The University of Oxford has decided to give scholarships to students from Balochistan through the Benazir Scholarship Program.
Oxford University and the Government of Balochistan made an agreement to help with this plan.
Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti went to the event where the scholarship agreement was signed between the Oxford Pakistan Program and the University of Oxford for students from Balochistan. At the event, Bugti said the scholarship will help close the education gap and support higher education.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti is the first Chief Minister of Balochistan to address the Oxford University’s Lady Margaret Hall. This is the same place where Benazir Bhutto, the only Muslim world leader with a picture in the hall, also studied. The event had 150 people, including Malala Yousafzai, Senator Anwaarul Haq Kakar, Aamir Ibrahim, Mohammad Khishgi, Farooq Sheikh, and Prof. Kamal Munir.
“The poor students of Balochistan will get to study where many important people, like the martyred Benazir Bhutto, did,“ said Bugti. He pointed out that this plan will help meet the local needs of Balochistan while also matching global education standards. It will help fix education differences and connect local hopes with worldwide academic levels.
“This is a big promise to change education and help the young people of Balochistan,“ said Bugti. He explained that higher education is very important for making democracy stronger and helping society grow. This scholarship will help train future leaders from Balochistan.
“This is not just money, but a way to benefit young people from Balochistan,“ said Bugti.
This new program of scholarship will offer talented student from Balochistan the opportunity to study in some of the best universities around the world.
