Punjab University has created the Alumni Scholarship Fund to help students who need financial support to finish their higher education.
At Punjab University, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood conducted a meeting on Thursday to discuss a new plan. Important people in presence included Prof. Dr. Hafiz M. Anwaar Asghar from Planning & Development and Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry from the Alumni Office.
In the meeting, Prof. Mahmood talked about how graduates from around the world give money to their old schools to help with education and research. He also said that many of Punjab University students come from middle class and lower middle class families. The university wants to make sure that no student has to drop out because they can’t afford it.
Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry said that the fund will give scholarships and interest free loans (Qarz-e-Hasna) for 10 years. He also introduced the ‘One Alumni – One Student’ program, where each graduate will help pay for the education of one student.
